There is provided a thermochromic writing instrument containing a thermochromic ink. The thermochromic writing instrument contains a writing body internally accommodating the thermochromic ink; a barrel internally accommodating the writing body and enabling the writing body to move in a longitudinal direction; an operation portion used for enabling a pen tip of the writing body to be projectable/retractable from/into a front-end hole of the barrel; and a friction portion made of a elastic material with a lower wear feature and capable of thermally changing the color of the handwriting of the thermochromic ink by the frictional heat generated when the handwriting is rubbed. The operation portion and the friction portion are arranged at different parts in the barrel.
