A CPU (40) of a blood pressure sphygmomanometer (1) of the present invention has a first control unit (41) for controlling the internal pressure variation of an air bag for measurement (13) by controlling driving of a pump (21) and/or a valve (22) at measurement time. In addition, the CPU has a second control unit (42) for controlling the internal pressure variation of an air bag for compression (8) by controlling driving of a pump (31) and/or a valve (32). The second control unit, at measurement time, performs control so that the internal pressure of the air bag for compression reaches a predetermined ratio of the internal pressure of the air bag for measurement which is controlled by the first control unit.
