It has been difficult for known devices that catch the leading ends of sheets so as to correct the inclination of the sheets to increase the sheet conveying speed or to improve the productivity of sheet conveyance by reducing intervals between the sheets that are successively conveyed. Disclosed is a sheet conveying device which comprises a catching member (23) that has catching faces (23a to 23d) capable of being brought into contact with and catching the leading end of a sheet (S) being conveyed so that the inclination of the sheet (S) is corrected and that rotates when pushed by the leading end of the sheet (S) being conveyed. The catching member (23) can rotate so as to be in a sheet passing position that allows passage of the sheet (S), and rotates from the sheet passing position in the same direction as the sheet conveying direction so as to be positioned in a stand-by position after the trailing end of the sheet (S) being conveyed passes through the catching member (23).
