A lancet carrier (20) for an integrated lancet sensor assembly incorporating a lance cover includes an elongated body (22) with a bottom (24), an open top (26), a body open end (40) and a body closed end (44), a lancet-receiving recess (36) with a recess bottom surface (37), the recess extending between the open end (40) and the closed end (44), and a trough-forming member (60) forming a trough (62) with a trough open end (64) in communication with the body open end (40), the trough-forming member (60) longitudinally extending a predefined distance along the bottom (24) from the body open end (40), the trough (62) replacing a portion of the recess bottom surface (37) at the body open end (40).
