A crosslinked foamed object and a shoe midsole which have an excellent balance among various material properties, i.e., lightweight properties, flexibility, compression set, tear strength, resilience, and stability to molding, and a crosslinkable and foamable composition which gives the foamed object and the midsole. The crosslinkable and foamable composition comprises (A) an ethylene copolymer, (B) a copolymer comprising a vinylaromatic monomer unit and a conjugated diene monomer unit having an unsaturated bond, (C) an organic peroxide, and (D) a blowing agent, wherein the ratio of the mass of the ingredient (A) to the mass of the ingredient (B), (A)/(B), is from 97/3 to 50/50, and the ingredient (B) contains the vinylaromatic monomer unit in an amount of 5-80 mass% of the ingredient (B)and the conjugated diene monomer unit in an amount of 5-55 mass% of the ingredient (B).
