The present invention provides a code division multiple (CDMA) communication system, which includes a transmitter that is configured to repeatedly transmit the short code at a higher power level and transmit the long code after repeatedly transmitting the short code, wherein the long code is longer than the short code. The application of the short code inhibits excessive power and interference to other user station and allows the base station to be synchronous with the transmission code used by the user unit in a fast way.
