The invention relates to the method of slicing bread, especially bread in oblong or basically oblong shape and a device for applying the method. The method of slicing a bread in oblong shape comprises introducing the bread in a first compartment of a casing with one or a plurality of longitudinal side walls, and cutting the bread in a second compartment of the casing. A longitudinal slit is mounted on one of the sidewalls or on the unique sidewall of the casing, and is arranged for passage of a circular blade, which turns in anti-clockwise direction and is rotatingly disposed around the axis of the external housing. After adjusting the distance between the blade end in the housing and the bread guiding piece facing the slit, the bread is inserted into the first compartment and moves by the driving force of the blade. The bread undergoes movement along its total or partial length by applying a drive force in the blade and is recovered.
