The invention discloses a friction transmission belt and an automobile ancillary drive belt transmission unit using the same. The friction transmission belt B has short-length fibers 14 and carbon black 18 dispersedly arranged so as to be exposed on the surface of at least the part 13 coming into contact with a pulley of a rubber-made belt main body 10. The short-length fiber 14 includes a high elastic short-length fiber formed from a polymer not containing aromatic series in its main chain which has an initial tensile strength of 100 cN/dtex or more measured according to JIS L 1013, and the carbon black 18 includes large-particle carbon black which has an iodine adsorption number of 40 g/kg or less measured according to JIS K 6217-1 and/or a nitrogen adsorption specific surface of 40 m2/g or less measured according to JIS K 6217-2.
