Provided is an activity meter, which comprises a sensor capable of detecting accelerations of plural directions, representative acceleration calculating means for calculating a representative acceleration on the basis of the output signal of the sensor, and exercise intensity calculating means for calculating the exercise intensity of a body motion performed for a unit period, from the representative acceleration. The exercise intensity calculating means includes a plurality of calculating formulas to be used for calculating the exercise intensities, and decides the calculating formula to be used for calculating the exercise intensity of the body motion performed for the unit period, on the basis of the horizontal component and the vertical component of the representative acceleration. As a result, the activity meter measures the activity amounts of various kinds of body actions from the living activity to the exercise with a good accuracy.
