The invention relates to an apparatus for determining and/or monitoring a process variable of a medium (1), said apparatus having a unit (2) which is capable of mechanical oscillation, having an excitation/reception unit (3) which excites the unit (2) which is capable of mechanical oscillation to oscillate mechanically and receives the mechanical oscillations, and having an electronic unit (4) which applies an electrical output signal (SA) to the excitation/reception unit (3) and receives an electrical input signal (SE) from the excitation/reception unit (3), wherein the electronic unit (4) contains an amplification unit (5) which amplifies the electrical input signal (SE) to form an amplified signal (SV). The invention comprises providing an adjustable phase shifter (6), which changes the phase of the amplified signal (SV), and providing a control unit (7) which controls the phase shifter (6), wherein the control unit (7) measures the frequency of the amplified signal (SV) and controls the phase shifter (6) on the basis of stored data relating to the frequency/phase dependence of the amplifier unit (5).
