The invention relates to a positioning device for positioning a spring strut (15) or shock absorber of a motor vehicle axle during the connection of a body module (21), which is suspended on a body hanger (22) of a hanging conveyer (23), to a chassis module (17), which is mounted on an assembly device (20, 18), of the motor vehicle, wherein the positioning device comprises: a device fastening element (2) for fastening the positioning device to the assembly device; a gripping means support element (4) which is articulatedly connected to the device fastening element (2) and has a gripping means (5) attached thereto for gripping the spring strut or shock absorber, wherein the gripping means can, by moving the gripping means support element about its articulated connection, be placed into latching positions defined by a latching means (12), specifically a working position, in which the spring strut or shock absorber which is gripped by the gripping means is positioned, and a rest position in which the spring strut or shock absorber is not positioned.
