The present invention provides a method for manufacturing metallic catalyst carrier for storing at a state that the honeycomb object is excellently pressed into the outer cylinder and a tool for manufacturing. The tool (13) is used for machining the peripheral part of roll-shaped honeycomb object (2) which is obtained by executing multilayer coiling to the corrugated metal foil (4) and small corrugated or planar metal foil (5) with a superposition state. The tool (13) comprises the following components: a through hole (14) which comprises a slant plane thinning at the front end and is formed by penetration; and a sawtooth chamber (12) which is formed at the diameter-reducing end (11a) of through hole (14). The coiled honeycomb object (2) is inserted from the diameter-enlarging end (11b) of through hole (14) of tool (13) for traversing the diameter-reducing end (11a) and machining the peripheral part of honeycomb object (2) to the sawtooth shape.
