The present invention generally relates to various multicolor writing tools and methods thereof for applying multiple volatile marking substances one at a time. More particularly, the present invention relates to multicolor writing tools including a case member, a cartridge member, a cap, and an actuator. The case member forms an interior cavity in which is provided with the cartridge member with the multiple cartridges each of which defines a cartridge body containing one of the marking substances therein and a tip through which such a marking substances is applied. The cap varies and restores at least one configuration thereof, while the actuator changes the configuration and exposes one of the tips selected by an user out of said interior cavity when the tool is in use, and then restores such a configuration and encloses all of said tips inside the interior cavity when the tool is not in use. Therefore, such writing tools preferably open the cap in response to input force applied to other parts of the tools by the user, without having to require the user to engage in a separate maneuver to remove the cap from such tools.
