The invention discloses a line differential protection method capable of automatically adapting to bypass state. The method determines running state of the line according to an on position of a line breaker, the on position of a bypass breaker and the position of a knife switch, selects the corresponding current as the current of the line current differential protection according to the running state of the line, and trips off the corresponding breaker according to the running state of the line to clear the fault when the differential protection works. The method can automatically identify the state of the line, avoids the problem of the protection quitting of the current differential protection of the traditional optical fiber while switching to the bypass running state, thus improving the security and reliability of power transmission lines of an electric power system.
