A hand-held device (e.g., a mobile phone and/or a music/multi-media player) emulating a terminal of a gaming device. The hand-held device can be used to emulate different terminals such that the same hand-held device can be used to play with different gaming devices. In an embodiment, the user indicates the specific terminal type that is to be emulated, and the hand-held device generates buttons corresponding to the selected terminal type on a touch screen. In response to user actions on portions displaying the buttons, terminal inputs consistent with the interface requirements of the gaming device, are provided to the gaming port of a gaming device.
