The invention relates to a drive system and a method of a stepping motor, the method comprises the following steps: drive parameters of the stepping motor are set, the drive parameters of the stepping motor are stored in a controller of a single chip microcomputer, the type of a driver of the stepping motor and the operation direction of the stepping motor are selected, a drive command of the stepping motor is sent to the controller of the single chip microcomputer, the drive parameters of the stepping motor comprise operation time of the stepping motor; the controller of the single chip microcomputer receives the drive command which is sent from a host and then controls the corresponding driver of the stepping motor to drive the corresponding stepping motor according to the selected type of the driver of the stepping motor, the operation direction of the stepping motor and the drive parameters of the stepping motor; the host judges whether the operation time of the stepping motor is achieved or not, when the operation time of the stepping motor is achieved, the controller of the single chip microcomputer finishes the control of the driver of the stepping motor. The use of the invention can drive the different stepping motors through the selection of the type of the driver of the stepping motor by a user.
