The present invention discloses a method for controlling a pitch of marine propeller, especially to a controllable pitch of a ship with engines, which comprises the following steps: providing power stopping mode so as to reduce speed of ship rapidly when the ship is running; adjusting a propeller pitch to complete reversing position, and making the engine power be able to use during the course of transmitting the reduced speed of ship from the advanced speed. The present invention also discloses a system for controlling a pitch of marine propeller, especially to a controllable pitch of a ship with engines, which comprises: a drive actuator which can move to reverse position from the advanced position and a controller for adjusting the pitch of propeller so as to lead the pitch to be at complete reverse position. The controller judges requirement of power stop by monitoring the movement of the actuator, and adjusts the propeller pitch to the complete reverse position according to the judgement of power stop. At the same time the engine power can be used during the course of transmitting the reduced speed of ship from the advanced speed.
