A nucleic acid detection cassette which has the main body having channels involving a first channel and a second channel formed therein. A sample containing a target nucleic acid is added via an inlet into a sample chamber in the second channel. The main body has a detection section provided with a detection chamber, which is connected to the first and second channels, and a nucleic acid detection unit integrated therein. In the first channel, a first reagent-retaining section holding a first reagent and a second reagent-retaining section holding a second reagent are determined. The first and second reagent-retaining sections are separated from each other by a gas in the channel. Owing to the action of a pump section which is connected to the first and second channels, the sample and the first and second reagents are supplied to the detection section. Thus, it is possible to prevent the contamination with non-target nucleic acid molecules and the outside leakage of the nucleic acid sample.
