The switch cabinet is embodied for a gas-insulated high-voltage breaker and comprises an axially-symmetrical housing (1) and a contact arrangement (2) with two switch pieces (3, 4), mounted in the housing (1) of which at least one (3) is arranged to be displaced along the housing axis (5). The switch cabinet housing (1) comprises two hollow bodies (7, 8) made from electrically-conducting materialwhich conducts high voltages and an insulating tube (6), holding the hollow bodies (7, 8) at an axial separation. A separation zone (71, 72, 81, 82) which is electrically-screening on operation of the switch, is moulded into the surface of at least one of the hollow bodies (7, 8), separating two surface zones (71a, 71b; 72a, 71b; 81a, 81b; 82a, 81b) of differing roughness in the hollow body (7, 8). Inhomogeneities in the surface of the switch cabinet housing (1), which can reduce the dielectric resistance of the breaker provided with the switch cabinet thus have no effect. The switch cabinet and the breaker are thus characterised by high operational security with simple construction.
